Saulius S. Lipčius
Saulius S. Lipčius is already the fourth
generation of professional musicians in his family. Always living in a
musical atmosphere he became interested in guitar being 12 years. Until
then he was studying piano in “Ažuoliukas” boys music school. In 2006
he received his Master's degree in Lithuanian Academy of Music and
Theatre where he studied with Julius Kurauskas. Saulius has won several
competitions including the Second competition for young Lithuanian
guitarists in 1998, two first prizes in ELK international classical
guitar competition, both in solo and duo classes in 1999, in 2004 the
national competition for Lithuanian guitarists, where he also received
a prize for the best interpretation of Jurgis Rimkevicius piece. He
also became diplomaed in the Andre's Segovia European Competition for
Young Guitarists in 2000 and the finalist in the 5th international
Bangkok Guitar competition (Thailand).
S.S.Lipčius is not only active as a soloist, he also performs with
various musicians, actors and ensembles. Since 1998 he plays in a duo
with his father - a cello player from M.K.Čiurlionis string quartet. In
2004 Saulius became one of the founders of the Baltic Guitar Quartet,
which soon became considered as the leading guitar
ensemble in the Baltic states. Having concerts in festivals and main
halls of Lithuania, the quartet is often playing abroad - in Japan,
Estonia, Germany, Belgium, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Austria etc. The
ensemble has released two CDs - "Live" and "Dancing with guitar". In
2007 together with a famous Lithuanian actress Virginija Kochanskytė,
Saulius released a poetical-musical CD "Romansero begančiam
laikui". Since 1999 he had different performances in Lithuania,
Poland, Germany, Latvia, England, Denmark, Russia, Norway, France,
Spain, Sweden, Estonia. Being 19 years old he had a successful debut in
the Royal Festival Hall, London. He is also actively performing in many
Lithuanian music festivals : "Biržai 2001", "Pažaislis", "The Great
Parade of Musicians", "Tytuvenai summer festival", "Christofer summer
festival", "Jauna muzika", "Summer of Palanga", “Muzikos ruduo”,
"Vilnius City Hall Guitar Festival" "Gaida Festival" and others. The
young guitarist is often chosen by various composers to perform their
premieres. His recordings can be heard on the National radio.
Since 2004 Saulius is also an active guitar teacher - his students are
winners of national and international competitions, while the guitarist
himself
is constantly being invited to various international competitions as a
jury member .
In 2008 he was also
invited to teach in the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
